I attended the Blackhawk County Republican caucus tonight. They expected 2500 to show up and they got almost 5000, all jam packed into central middle school. I spent about 3 1/2 hours there if you include time trying to find a parking spot and time to get out of the parking lot. It was a pretty cool experience but very chaotic. Huckabee, Ron Paul, & Mitt’s wife spoke so that was a bonus. I was pleased to see that Huck did so well tonight…

if you haven’t seen the improv everywhere site, you need to check it out.  good pranks.

neat unix tools

Just a few neat Unix tools that i have been using a lot lately while parsing log files.

• cut – awesome for extracting only columns you want from a delimited file
• sort – use the “-u” to sort a file AND delete all repeated entries
• grep – use the “-v” option to display all lines that DON’T match your expression or list of expressions. Great for reviewing logs.

..they have turned out to be lifesavers when looking at log files that reach the 1 GB in size. Excel (2003) doesn’t cut it when you have files with well over 65,536 rows.

Computer club to hold ‘nerd auction’ for dates
